The 15 Seconds That Started It All:
The story behind Vault Cargo Management can literally be summed up into a 15 second memory that has replayed in our heads over and over again.
Imagine you’re driving your truck down the right lane of the highway on a hot sunny day, pulling your boat to the lake for a nice relaxing afternoon of skiing and wakeboarding. It’s a perfect day to be out on the water with friends & family. You’ve got the radio turned up and can’t wait to get out there.
You’ve taken your boat and gear down the same highway countless times and never had an issue. Suddenly, you hit a bump (the same bump you’ve hit over & over before) and you see the front of your friend’s wakeboard begin to lift up out of your truck in your rear view mirror.
Within a half a second, the wakeboard takes off into the air – quickly getting up to about 15 feet high. Time seems to freeze. You suddenly remember the man riding his motorcycle behind you and to your left, along with the line of cars behind you – including that tan minivan behind you with a mom and kids. If that wakeboard even comes close to that motorcycle, there is a very good chance he could lose control and wipe out – causing serious injury, or worse. If it comes down behind you, it’s almost certainly going to hit that minivan – who knows what will happen then.

*Dramatic Reenactment
After the wakeboard floats for what feels like an eternity (really only about a second and a half), it suddenly flips over and does a nose dive straight down at a velocity you didn’t think possible. It crashes to the ground – just outside of the rumble strips and narrowly missing everyone.
The wakeboard is obviously trashed, but all you can think about is how close you just came to seriously injuring or killing that man on his motorcycle. He was enjoying the weather and going out for a ride. What about that mom and kids in the minivan behind you? They were probably heading home from school, or maybe off to a soccer practice at the park just up the road.
It was blind luck (or divine intervention) that no one was hurt in that moment. You realize how careless you were just throwing the wakeboards into the back of the truck like that, even though you’ve done it a hundred times before without incident. From then on you silently promise yourself, and everyone else on the road, that you will never put anyone’s safety in jeopardy like that again when you’re out on the road.
A few years later, after replaying that memory in our head a couple hundred times, Vault Cargo Management was formed. Our goal is to minimize the risk on the road so that no one has to worry about a situation like that, and how it could have gone so much differently.
