Every spring, my entire family gets together and starts getting all sort of excited for the trip. The tents come out and get checked over. The kids are all over the place getting their marshmallow roasting sticks ready & dreaming of smores under the stars. We simply can’t wait for our annual Wisconsin Dells camping trip that coming summer.

We always try to rotate campgrounds to keep things fresh, and we have a great time every year! There are literally FIFTEEN different Wisconsin Dells camping destinations, and each has their own little piece of Wisconsin charm. Whether you’re looking for the classic waterparks that Wisconsin Dells is so well-known for or just a simple getaway, they have it all.

For a state that is most often known for it’s low-key, small-town feel you wouldn’t expect so many incredible opportunities for camping in Wisconsin Dells, but there are definitely a ton of them!

Well, what are we waiting for!? Let’s run through the list of the best places to book for your next Wisconsin Dells camping trip!

Wisconsin Dells Camping Sites

Wisconsin Dells Camping Resorts

For the sake of simplicity, this article is only going to account for locations that allow for camping in Wisconsin Dells. Those that fall outside of Wisconsin Dells (Baraboo, Lyndon Station, etc) are certainly great locations for camping near Wisconsin Dells, but we aren’t going to cover them here. So without further ado, let’s run through our favorite Wisconsin Dells camping destinations!

Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park – Wisconsin Dells Camping

  • Yogi Bear Campground - Wisconsin Dells CampingOpen: Mid May – Mid September
  • Cost: Camp Sites Starting At $39
  • Reservations:  Available here

Those familiar with Wisconsin Dells camping sites won’t be surprised at all to see Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park show up at the top of our list. I personally went here every year from before I can remember (probably 2 or 3 years old) until I was about 12.

This park is home to 217 tent campsites as well as 33 RV sites. The RV sites offer full hook-ups to make your stay as comfortable as possible. If you aren’t quite feeling the “rustic” appeal of tent camping, there are some Wisconsin Dells camping cabins for rent as well. Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park has 50 cabins, referred to on their site as “lodging units” ready and waiting for you!

This Yogi Bear themed park is awesome for kids, and there are so many activities to keep them busy all day long. With over 25 different water activities spanning an incredible 10,000 square feet, it’s safe to say we never had an issue falling asleep at night! The water activities are definitely geared towards younger kids and are recommended for kids aged 3 – 12. The waterpark has on-duty lifeguards to keep the kids safe while they go down water slides, play with the water cannons, or play some water basketball. This was definitely a trip that we looked forward to every year! While rates might seem a little bit high for a simple camping trip, it is worth noting that this does include access to the water park as well.

If you plan on coming here, be sure to keep in mind that this campsite was created with entertaining kids as their top priority. Because of that, you should expect days of kids running around playing, making noise, and simply having fun. If you’re looking for a quiet, private family getaway this probably isn’t your ideal location. However, if you’re looking for a spot to take the kids for a fun, activity-filled Wisconsin Dells camping weekend this is the ideal spot for you!

  • Cost: Camp Sites Starting At $60
  • Reservations:  Available here

Bonanza Camping Resort is a highly sought-after Wisconsin Dells camping experience, both for the resort itself & the location. While it certainly offers great camping near Wisconsin Dells, most people flock to this campground because of it’s close proximity to the waterparks in the area. Families are able to save a bunch of money by staying at a campsite instead of the waterpark itself, and instead simply pay for day passes at the waterpark.

Bonanza Camping Resort offers 30 primitive tent campsites, 83 electric and water RV sites, and 60 full hook-up RV sites. This is clearly more of a spot for RV camping Wisconsin Dells, but there are still options for those looking to stay in a tent. The campground itself does offer some great amenities, so you don’t need to spend all your time at the waterparks. There is a heated pool, playground, mini golf, arcade, & more to keep your family entertained!

The rates at Bonanza are certainly a bit higher than other Wisconsin Dells camping sites. However, many people find that it is still a savings considering it is in such close proximity to the waterparks that they’ll be going to. Bonanza is within walking distance to the incredibly popular Mt. Olympus resort as well as a few others.

Bonanza offers deals on both camping stays & waterparks passes if you’d like to go that route!

Blue Lake Campground – Wisconsin Dells Camping

Blue Lake Campground is a far cry from the first two Wisconsin Dells camping sites we’ve featured on our list, as they aren’t a true “waterpark” type campground. If you’re looking to get away on a nice, relaxing camping trip this is the place to be. Nestled right on Blue Lake, you’ll have a great time camping right on the lake.

As we mentioned, this tends to be a much quieter camping experience. Blue Lake doesn’t even allow gas-powered boats on the lake, so you won’t even be having to listen to those. There is a large area for frisbee, volleyball, and more. You can grab one of their two paddle boats and go for a relaxing cruise.

Want to go fishing? No problem! There is a fishing pier right at the campground, plus some great fishing lakes around the area as well. There are 64 campsites at Blue Lake Campground, including spots for RV’s. You’ll be able to use a completely remodeled shower and restroom area, and there is also firewood on-site.

This is a family-oriented park that offers more privacy than you’ll find at most Wisconsin Dells camping destinations. Amenities include a store, lodge, two swimming pools, and plenty of games.
